England Hockey's coaching roadshow is bringing practical, engaging session ideas to clubs nationwide. Here's what coaches are learning.
Divide the players into 4 teams of 2-4 players. Each player needs a ball. Place piles of coloured wristbands around the edge of the playing area. Set up the pitch as shown, with either flat round markers, or cones. Procedure: Players get 1 pt every time they move over or touch 4 (same/different)-coloured cones with their ball. Play for [2] mins. Repeat - can you win more points this time? Add 1-2 Blockers, who can only walk. They can only only block the same person for 3 secs. Add 1-2 Stealers, who try to steal players' balls, take it to the sideline, then give it back to them. Scoring: During the game, every time a player wins 1 pt, they collect a wristband from the sideline. Teams count up their wristbands after each round.
This game is designed for Under-8s. It's based on the Zero to Hero game developed by England Hockey. It practises dribbling.
