Golf: Clap and hold

DESCRIPTION

To encourage the pupil to get into a correct grip routine and
technique for putting.
Pupils begin by holding their hands either side of the shaft and then clap the shaft
with the palms facing one another. Slide the hand furthest from the target down,
close the fingers with the thumbs pointing down the centre of the shaft, but
ensure that the hands are still close together.

Eye Drops

  • To encourage the pupil to get into a correct posture for putting and encourage good eye alignment.

    Encourage the pupil to set up ready to hit the ball then take a ball and place in between the eyes (1). Drop the ball; it should land near to the players golf ball showing the eyes are directly over the line of the ball (2).

  • To encourage the pupil to develop the feeling of a square club face through impact to a finish

    Encourage the pupil to set up less that 1 putters length from the hole (1). Without a back stroke push the putter forwards and the ball into the hole (2). Hold the finish position with the putter face above the hole (3).

  • To encourage the pupil to create good body alignment and club path?

    Place 2 shafts parallel to the aim line either side of the ball to target line (1), the pupil should check their body lines are parallel to those lines (2).

  • To encourage the pupil to develop central club face contact

    Place 1 or 2 tees either side of the object tee or ball to create a 'gate' for the club to swing through at impact (1). Start with a fairly wide gate, gradually narrowing as the pupil improves their skill. A similar drill is achieved with just one tee on the outside of the ball (2).
