DESCRIPTION

Coned area 30 metres by 30 metres with two teams of players on one side Coach kicks the ball is kicked into the the grid.

2 different numbers are called with the 1st number being for the number of attackers and the 2nd the number of defenders

The attackers have to field the ball, turn and counter attack against the defenders

COACHING POINTS

Delay the second number to give the attackers time to get organised.

OFTEN USED WITH...

8 vs 3 Game:

8 players are lined up just outside the 22 metre line.

3 defenders start from under the posts with the ball.

One of the defenders kicks the ball towards the 22 metre line. Once they catch the ball the attackers have to try and score a try without being tagged by the defence.

Match related

3 vs 2 - Support Running:

3 vs 2 in a grid.

Defenders must stay in position to start.

Once skills progress defenders can move to try and stop attackers either by intercepting the ball or touch tackling the ball carrier.

Match related

2 x Hit then pass:

Set up the practice as shown inside a 30m x 30m Grid.

6 Shields and 1 Ball.

Player 1 carries the ball before passing the ball to player 2 who bursts through the shields. Once through the other side, 2 passes to 3 and receives a return pass before bursting through the next set of shields

Once they are through the last two players with shields can move and try and block the runners. Player 2 has the option to pass to either player or go it alone.

Off loads

Pass Invaders:

Split the team into two groups.

The players run to the cone and then pass the ball square before running on to the next cone and pass square. When the players reach the end they have to run back through the middle of the cones.

The practice keeps repeating.
