DESCRIPTION

  • Player stands on the baseline
  • Coach stands in front of the player
  • Coach alternates feeding short and deep balls to the backhand side
  • Player hits backhand slice alternating loading front and back leg before the hit

COACHING POINTS

  • It is crucial to understand that proper physical work is a base to have a chance to successfully hit backhand slices with proper consistency
  • Loading front leg with shorter balls and loading back leg with deeper balls are adjustments that player has to constantly make to control the body and allow technique to control the ball
  • With more advanced players, coach can feed more difficult balls or can feed random balls so player doesn’t know what type of ball they will receive next
