DESCRIPTION

To encourage the pupil to maintain a square clubface throughout the stroke

Using Blu-Tack or plastcine affix a golf tee onto the putter face, near the centre of the blade (1). Encourage the pupil to swing the putter above a club shaft (or other straight line) to monitor the clubface position throughout the stroke (2, 3).

Hit the T:

This will allow the players to focus on a smaller target than a golf hole. This should increase their alingment.

Players should be encouraged to aim at a smaller target during practice, so in real play their confidence is increased.

Path Finder:

To encourage the pupil to monitor the correct path of the stroke

Lay a club shaft on the ground and swing the putter above it (1). The blade should stay on top or slightly inside the shaft during the backstroke (2) and on top and square to the shaft in the forward swing (3).

Push Putt:

To encourage the pupil to develop the feeling of a square club face through impact to a finish

Encourage the pupil to set up less that 1 putters length from the hole (1). Without a back stroke push the putter forwards and the ball into the hole (2). Hold the finish position with the putter face above the hole (3).

Rolling:

? To encourage the pupil to develop a feel for basic distance control when putting.

Pupils practice rolling the ball towards a target as if playing bowls to develop a feel for the length of swing to achieve the distance required. (1) A development could see the players putting with one hand only (the hand furthest from the target) to develop a similar feel. (2)
