Soccer: Movement Forward & Across Into Position

Improve GK movement in and around the goal. Familiarise the footwork required in various common movements such as forward, backwards and across the goal.

• Volley into hands making goalkeeper dive catching ball
• Followed by low shot into corner

Notes:

• Try and get up to feet if you can
• If not go into low dive from crouch
• Do not turn back to get up

• Place balls in the middle area
• Central server (server 1) plays ball to goalkeeper when they have advanced far enough
• Goalkeeper passes ball back to the server 1
• Server 1 then plays the ball out wide to Server 2 who plays first time ball for the goalkeeper to cut out or deal with the shot from Server 1

NOTES:

• When working with younger goalkeepers get the server that follows in to play the shot first time, so they cannot generate as much power

• Four cones set up round the goal. GK touches a cone with nearest hand then jumps back into set position to have a good base to make save from a volley.
• Should touch all 4 cones followed by making a save. Then rotate keepers.

• Two GKs working at the same time. Set up two squares 3mx3m just outside the posts.
• Servers opposite each GK. Both GKs advance to the front of the square and recieve a shot into hands.
• GK returns the ball back to the server then moves across the front of the goal to repeat from the opposite server.
