Keeping Possession

Skills Focus: Attacking Space, Handling, Decision Making, Tracking Lines

Overview: 2 teams start in the area with the other team spaced evenly around the edge. The aim of this is for teams to keep possession of the ball for as long as possible. The players on the outside are 2 touch only.

Key Improvement: Retaining the ball under pressure, keeping touches to a minimum.

2 Touch Kick-Ups

Skills Focus: Ball Control, First Touch, Teamwork

Overview: Player keep the ball in the air and must take two touches. One touch to control the ball and the second touch to pass the ball to their partner.

Key Improvement: Be able to use both feet to keep the ball under control.

Defending Stance

Skills Focus: Positioning, Jockeying, Defensive Stance

Overview: Player with the ball passes the ball across and then quickly closes their pass down. Once they get close they take a defensive stance and move backwards as the player on the ball dribbles forward.

Key Improvement: Use the body position to dictate the attackers movement.

Reactions & Deflections

Skills Focus: Goalkeeping, Reactions, Long Shots

Overview: Server strikes the ball at the object looking for a deflection. GK must watch the ball all the way and react to make the save if it deflects off the object.

Key Improvement: Simulates a game situation for the goalkeeper being able to make a save after a deflection.

2 Strikers, 3 Shots

Skills Focus: Shooting, Teamwork, Movement

Overview: Player 1 dribbles a ball to the mannequin, feints one way then moves the ball the other way to shoot. Player 2 runs up to the right of the mannequin and Player 1 lays the ball off to them to take a shot.

Key Improvement: Identifying and exploiting space in attack and defensive work rate.

Passing Wide To Cross & Finish

Skills Focus: Crossing, Build Up Play, Volley

Overview: Players keep possession before finding space to spread the ball wide. Winger crosses to one of the attacking players who can either pass the ball to the other attacker or take a shot.

Key Improvement: Using width to get the ball into the box with multiple attacking runners.
