We tried to work on recreating the pressure that players face in a match situation when you either don't have enough players for a training match or want a no contact session to embed the basics of the session.
The ball is kicked to the player in the full back position, in reality it can be any defensive position, in 9's you can deliberately force that person into a corner, futher reducing his or her options. The red person following the kick has to put pressure on the blue defender. The defender has to effectively dispose of the ball. We try to emphasise either the hand pass with a shepherd to the nearby defender or a kick upfield to the other blue option. This must be an effective kick to a mark, an aimless kick upfield is not allowed.
