Basketball: Pass and Move - Around the cone

DESCRIPTION

After passing the ball players must run around a cone before rejoining the playing area.

Once players have run around a cone they are eligible to receive a pass again.

COACHING POINTS

Players will need to talk, letting other players know when they are 'back in the game' and open to receive the ball.

The ball should never stop moving in this game.

Progression:

Have two teams working at the same time in the same area - players will need to keep their heads up and think quickly to ensure they're in space to receive the ball.

Pass and move - Cone V Cut:

Players work in teams of 4 with 1 ball per team.

Tell the players to number themselves 1 to 4 and they have to pass the ball from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 and then to 1 again and continue.

Do this for a minute so the players can get used to who passes to who. Once they have established the pattern tell the player that after they pass the ball they have to run around one of the outside corner cones before they can come in and receive the ball again.

Pass and go! Diagonal running:

2 players with one ball, 4 cones.

Player 1 chest passes to player 2 and then turns and runs diagonally to the first cone, touching it before returning to the starting spot to receives the return pass from player 2.

Player 2 does the same as player 1.

The second time round players run diagonally to touch the opposite cone.

Pass and Move - Hand Off:

Player 1 passes to player 3 and runs straight to receive a pass from player 3.

The opposite player (2) runs towards 1 and receive a ball and then hand off pass to player 4 and goes behind them.

1 goes behind the 2nd player 1 (on the right) and the drill continues.

Passing

Pass and follow:

Player 1 passes to player 4 and follows their pass. Player 4 passes to player 5 and then follows their pass. This process is repeated until the ball reaches player 10 who on receiving the ball dribbles back to the start.
