Get the basics right and the rest will follow, that's the purpose of this Sportplan session which really works on fine tuning passing, ideal for re-capping the basics with young, new or developing players.
By starting off slowly this session aims to gradually take your players through their passing paces. Recapping the core passing techniques in small groups (looking in particular at the chest pass and bounce pass) and gradually progressing into more match-like exercises.
There's a lot to be said for getting the foundations right. If you build on good passing principles your players will be able to grow into towering players, through their technical ability and solid passing ability. They might not necessarily become six-foot tall giants, after all only nature (and lots of Weetabix) can decide that, but with the correct technique they'll have the perfect opportunity to rise above the rest.
After completing the passing skills exercises your players will be rewarded with a full court game, the only stipulation is that they can't run with the ball! This will force your players to think hard and fast about their passing - effectively they'll be playing basketball with netball rules!
Don't underestimate the importance of the basics, get these right and you can guide your players through increasingly complex skills.
