Soccer: run onto ball and shoot

Players set up in 2 lines with one central player who feeds you the ball. The ball must be struck first time. The other player follows in for a rebound.

Groups of six. Four balls per group. Position players as shown in the diagram. Repeat in another area for a total of 12 players.

Red player 1 passes the ball to red server 3 who passes the ball back into the path of red player 1. Red player 1 shoots low and to the far post. Red player 3 turns and runs to the area at the far post to pick up any rebounds or shots wide of the target. Red player 3 becomes the goalkeeper. Blue goalkeeper goes to the back of the line and blue players 1 and 2 assume the pass and serve positions. Repeat the practice and rotate positions. Save= 5 points; rebound= 3 points; goal= 5 points; shot on target= 3 points.
Progression: Make blue player 1 a defender.

Set up two goals, one at either end of the half pitch and two narrow channels (with cones), one to the left and the other to the right of the goals.

Players must dribble with the ball using both feet through the channel towards goal. When they are within 15m of the goal they should prepare to shoot, with a shot across the goalkeeper into the far corner.

This drill simulates a through pass being played for your attack to run onto and finish in a one vs one show-down with the keeper.

The two lines take it in turns to run.

The first player passes the ball for the attacker to run onto - once inside the box the attacker should run deeper inside the box and try to get the better of the keeper in a one vs one.

After shooting players should collect their ball and run to the back of their feeder's line. The player who played the through pass should follow their pass and join the back of the attacker's line.
