Ultimate: Backhand Grip

Help your players pivot around the defence and fake throws to put the opponents on the back foot.

Teach your players to throw and catch the disc using the backhand grip correctly to build the fundamental foundation skills of Ultimate Frisbee.

1. Lightly grip the disc by curling the fingers of one hand around the rim, ensuring that the fingertips are all inside the rim of the disc and not along the edge
2. Face your hips towards your throwing partner
3. Keeping the disc horizontal, and with a relaxed arm and shoulder, lightly flick your wrist and release the disc towards your partner
4. Aim to follow through by pointing towards your partner

1. Face your partner and stand a few yards away
2. Focus on establishing the correct grip, and getting snap on the release to put spin on the disc
3. Aim for the centre of your partner's chest
4. When catching, open the hands wide to create a large target for your partner.

5. Focus on catching; watch the disc all the way into your hands

<p>Turn your body to face your throwing partner</p><p><br>If you throw with your left hand:<br>Keep your right foot as your pivot and step over with your left foot to a comfortable position; your hips should now face 180 degrees away from your throwing partner<br>Bend your left leg at the knee to allow you to get lower on your throw<br>Rotate from the waist so you can see your throwing partner, and in one smooth motion rotate your torso and flick your wrist as you release the disc, keeping the disc horizontal throughout. </p><p><br>If you throw with your right hand:</p><p>Keep your left foot as your pivot and step over with your right foot to a comfortable position; your hips should now face 180 degrees away from your throwing partner<br>Bend your right leg at the knee to allow you to get lower on your throw<br>Rotate from the waist so you can see your throwing partner, and in one smooth motion rotate your torso and flick your wrist as you release the disc, keeping the disc horizontal throughout. </p>

Grip: lightly pinch the rim of the disc between thumb, and two forefingers.
