Does anyone have any advice on drills to run that would best evaluate the players in a short time frame? I am pretty sure that we will need to have a cut this year because I am not carrying more than 10 girls on my team again this year.
Thanks in advance.

One of my favorite tryout drills is the "3-2-1 drill". Three players (a center and two wings) take the ball out under the opposition basket (offense) and bring the ball up court. I set up the defensive end with 2 defenders. The 3 offensive players attempt to score a basket. When the 2 defenders get the ball (either rebound or basket) they then play 2-on-1 against the center of the 3 previous offensive players. This allows me to see 1)teamwork, 2)screens, 3)movement without the ball, 4)defensive "get back" for the center and 5)ability to follow instruction. I have been coaching basketball for 25 years (6th, 7th, 8th grades) and find this drill allows me to see many fundamental characteristics I look for in a player. I use other drills but this is a good one to use with limited time available.
