Hello all, Great site... Have a question. We are playing every Sunday games against other companies, 5 on 5 full court. can somebody recommend some prepared actions for attacing and some sefense strategics which we could use? Thanks a lot, Emir
Hey Emir,
First of all, the simpler the better; also good luck. Coaching adults (at anything) is very difficult. And honestly, I have never done it in basketball %3A). However, I have coached high school in the US for a number of years. My questions for you outnumber my answers, unfortunately.
Personnel dictates what you can do effectively, but my best advice is to learn to play a solid, trapping defense and then get layups. If you were a youth program, I would advocate a man to man defense and force everyone to learn to play. As adults, you want to have fun and get some exercise-- a win is nice as well.
Thus, I would go with a 1-3-1 matchup zone (1/2 court trap). Many would advocate a simple 2-3 zone, but I think that makes people lazy (exceptions and apologies to Syracuse).
coachesclipboard.com has a pretty good analysis of the 1-3-1. In coaching, the winner is whomever has the chalk last. In other words, on paper, everything works. A 1-3-1 requires some speed, especialy up top and at the baseline. If the up top man is taken off the dribble, you are in trouble.
In terms of offense, I would recommend the "read and react". beat one defender with a dribble, if there is a trap or double team, pass. All players react to the ballhandler and stay moving at all times. 327 plays will never be effective.
have two inbounds plays-- a stack and a box. Use the one that works best for you.
And mostly, have fun. Good Luck.
Good Luck and I hope this helps at leat a little.
Hello Earle,
hope all is well!
Many thanks for your feedback! it makes perfectly sense, 1-3-1 in defense is the thing we are trying to do, but it fails apart if you have 3 (young) quick shooter in the team you play against. But, many thanks for the link http://www. coachesclipboard. net i think there are few things that everybody of us should read through. We have team avarage of 35 and mostly we play against much younger teams. you can see here more www. co-league. eu We are Monsters :)
Cheers much one more time, have a great week,
Emir
