I'm a basketball coach in India, coaching at college level. In your opinion and experience which type of defence
works best? So far my experiences shows that half court pressure, working man to man to deny the pass works best. Feedback and suggestions welcome!
Thanks,
Mahesh
Im a techer in spain and i would say that defending zones instead of going for one on one defense/attacker, the defenders are 2-3 like this, is good for any team fast or slow
a
a O O a
a O O O a
where "a" are attackers and the "O" are defenders, the o in the middle is in charge of trying to stop anyone who comes pass anyone of his fellow defenders from scoring by having his hands up, he also has to try to get the rebound,
hope this was helpfull.
Hi Mahesh,
I have attached a session that progresses man to man defense from 1v1 to 5v5.
I am a strong believer that you must have a strong man to man defense to be a successful team. The principles that you learn from man to man defence can be transfered across to any types of half or full court zone defense.
So I would begin by teaching a man to man defense. Once players know and understand%3A
* How they defend 1v1.
* How to Anticipate, Help and rotate.
* How to box out and secure the rebound.
* How to deny the pass.
Once players work as a unit in the man to man defense you will be able to easily progress onto 2-3 zone, 1-2-2 half court trap etc.
Even though man to man pressure is a a great defense to rely on, it is also very important to have multiple defences that you can switch too if you need to change the momentum of the game or you have players in foul trouble.
