U13's Girls Pass and Movehow do you bring spatial awareness into play so the players are not just passing to whoever they see, at times putting the receiving player in a no-win position
Hi Steven,
Developing spatial awareness in U13 girls' football (soccer) involves teaching players to understand their positions on the field and make effective decisions regarding passing and movement. Here are some coaching strategies and drills to enhance spatial awareness:
Small-Sided Games:
Use small-sided games (3v3, 4v4) to create more opportunities for players to receive and distribute the ball. In smaller spaces, players are forced to be aware of their positioning and the movements of teammates and opponents.
Positional Awareness Drills:
Set up drills that emphasize specific positions on the field. For example, create exercises where players must maintain width, support centrally, or make diagonal runs. This helps players understand their roles and responsibilities in different areas of the pitch.
Passing Patterns:
Practice specific passing patterns that involve multiple players. For instance, work on triangle passing or rotational passing sequences. This encourages players to move into space and provide passing options for their teammates.
Conditioned Possession Games:
Introduce conditions to possession games that encourage players to explore different areas of the field. For instance, you can require a certain number of passes before entering the attacking third, promoting strategic passing and movement.

Possession without purpose is pointless. These drills combine ball retention with physical conditioning to create teams that dominate and outlast opponents.
Teams have just 6 seconds to exploit a turnover before defences reorganise. Learn how to train your players to attack with speed and purpose.
