Could anybody provide me with any drills to beat a high press from the opposition when we are taking a goal kick, during a under 11 9 aside game. The team is a developing side with very mixed abilities. Our goalies cannot kick the ball far which leads us to lose possession around the 18 yard box.Any ideas would be much appreciated?
Hi there,
Beating a high press without being able to go long will force your team to be brave with their passing.
Try this drill attached to get your players comfortable with passing into tight areas and receiving the ball under pressure.
When a team presses high, this often means that there will be more space in between the defensive, midfield and forward lines to exploit. Therefore, it`s important your players understand how to move effectively to create a passing option.
This drill is perfect for this with the overload of outlining players allowing players to get more comfortable and confident with their passing and their movement. You can then add pressing players into the drill when you deem fit in order to create a more game realistic situation.
You can adapt the drill to make it more specific to a goalkeeper starting with the ball. However essentially, you want to make the players understand that they need to make the area as big as possible to create the spaces to be able to play into and through the pressing team.
I hope this helps!

This drill is great for exactly this. The overload of attackers helps the success rate to build confidence and then you can gradually add in more members of the pressing team to make it more game realistic.
Adapt the set up slightly to make it more specific to the goal keeper starting with the ball. However essentially, you want your players to make the area a big as possible to create space to pass into and play through the high press.
I hope this helps!
