Hi, I need some help with ideas on delivering free-kicks from full-back positions into the goal area. Do you have any tips on the movement of the forward players? Thanks James
If you mean from the wide areas in the attacking half (rather than from your defensive or full back position which would be a long way to deliver a free kick) first the forward players need to know from the taker where the ball will be delivered. Then in no particular order%3A
Agree which areas they will attack
Cover as many areas as possible between them
Know the sequence of movements (if there is one)
Not move too early so they arrive when the ball does (unless it's a decoy run)
Vary the speed and angle of runs.
Obviously, the free kick taker is the key to a successful kick and nowadays the favoured one is hard flat in swinging cross (so a left footer from the right wing) aimed to arrive anywhere between the goal so it either goes directly in or with the aid of a deflection (off attackers or defenders for OG).
The attacking players should ideally be tall, quick reactions, physical, good in the air and good finishers.
