How to defend high airballs? For u-17?
Hello coach, My question is - How to defend high airballs? Actully we prefer to play small passes and ground balls more. So we face problems with airballs. Teams here play more airballs. We win , but feel the pressure of the airball situation. Kindly suggest some drills for the same please.Thankingyou.
First things first. It will be a major advantage if you can have a tall player in the back line. That will all ready put the opposition striker who is suppose to receive the ball off.
Otherwise create a training session where its 3/4 attackers vs 4 defenders where 1 wide attacker crosses the ball in.
The coaching points should be:
Read the weight of the cross (thereby back padling or moving forward)
Meet the ball at the highest point possible (jump for header).
As 1 player goes to attack the ball another should cover
