What kind of plays are your running?

Football CoachCoach

Are they ceating potential chances on goal?

They are creating a few chances but its their actual movement in the opposing half. They struggle to find space to make themselves available for a pass. Cheers

Often in junior football, space is limited because younger players have a tendency to move towards the ball as opposed to wait for it. This is especially the case when there is only little confidence that the players on the ball will actually pass it. Discipline is very important here. You need players off the ball to create spaces, which means they need to stay away more than they are used to. It also means that the players on the ball need to pass (and be able to pass) the ball to the players creating space or the players who are available as a result of this. The longer they dwell on the ball, the easier it is for the opponent to close them down and dispossess. That's when the boys out wide get frustrated because they have to run back to make the pitch small again. Lots of passing and movement games and positioning games are a good idea for practice. Try playing a practice game with four goals and see which players naturally try and find space at the 'other' goal.
