Are there any drills I could use to help my U8 team learn to use the right weight of pass in the right situation. They have the ability to see the pass but often either under hit or over hit the ball. Thanks Lee
A simple drill that can also be used as a part warm-up is to spread the squad out in 2 lines facing each other paired up. For u/8's the lines can be 15-20 meters apart. The ball starts with the players at one end. Have the players pass the ball across to their partner and slowly advance continously playing back as the distance narrows and the weight of the pass becomes lighter. When the advancing player get within-in a meters or so they will then retreat slowly while still playing the ball back all the time making a stronger pass. When they regain the starting position the ball is transferred across and the other group will copy the drill. Stipulate left foot or right foot only or alternate feet to change body shape. Make the distance suitable for the age and competence of the players. Another option is to have pairs interpassing/moving at random in a 30x30 zone. Ask for passes of varying distance....no passes over 5 meters, no passes under10 meters etc. The players will come in to receive short pass or spread out for a longer pass.

Set pieces account for roughly a third of all goals in football, yet many coaches spend surprisingly little time coaching defensive organisation at corners and free kicks. This article compares zonal and man marking systems, explores hybrid approaches, and provides a practical session structure for building set piece resilience into your team.
A player's first touch determines everything that follows: whether they can play forward, turn, or simply retain the ball. This article explores why training first touch in isolation is not enough, and how to design sessions that develop this critical skill under realistic game pressure.
The coaching methodology revolution sweeping grassroots football - and how to implement it at your club this season.
