hi to allmy club has signed up to a Queensland miniroo's program to introduce children to football it is to be both fun and show discipline. This is from age's 4 to 11 it runs for 6 weeks, there will then be the chance for the children to join the club after this or as a club we can continue to run for the 2016 session , fitness isn't the main objective, just skills and enjoyment.Would you like to give some advise on the kind of drills that you would run in this kind of environment remembering that its only a introduction. I have detailed drills that we currently run for are established players.Thank you karl
For introduction (I assume ages 3-6) to football fundamentals there are 3 games/drills I always use.
1. My House- Set 3 players in goal box and have the others take turns shooting. Once the shooter has taken a shot, they can try to recover their ball and try to score. The defenders try to kick the ball as hard as they can back to center to defend the "House". If the defender kicks it out of bounds or outside the goal box, then the shooter must return to start and reset their shot. It teaches about goals and scoring, basic defensive tactics, progress into body shape when addressing the ball/attacker and keeps everyone busy and involved to reduce boredom.
2. Sharks and minnows- Set up 4 cones to create a square 20x20 (adjust size to accommodate the whole team) and set one player to be a shark. All other players have a ball and try to dribble as long as they can. The shark tries to take the ball and kick it outside the square. When a minnow loses their ball, they become a shark until all players except one are a shark. The last minnow standing wins. This introduces dribbling techniques in confined space, dribbling into open space and dribbling away/around defenders. For the sharks, they learn basic team defending techniques.
3. Pass and trap- Pair up the players and have them pass the ball to each other on the edge of a box marked with cones. The players enter the box to pass and receive but quickly retreat to their starting line outside the box once they are rid of the ball.
Hope that helps for a start.
