Run and Pass

Player 1 (red) runs the ball to the third cone. They then play a diagonal pass across to the player on the opposite side. The player on the opposite side runs to the third cone in tandem with Player 1 (red) and also plays a diagonal pass to Player 2 Red. Repeat. After making the pass players should chase their pass across so that they force the nearest player to get the ball out of their feet quickly.

The Diagonal Pass

Players work in pairs, with one ball per pair. The first player makes a square pass across the grid to their partner before running onto the cone ahead. Their partner then plays a pass diagonally across the grid back to their partner who is looking to run onto the ball. The player who started the drill then plays square across the grid again to their partner running onto the ball. The players work their way up to the top of the grid.

Players move to meet the pass and play a one-two. After playing the return pass the player should then move to receive the diagonal pass. The patten then continues all the way around the grid.

Through Ball in the Triangle

Set up a rectangle, 15x10m, with a player on each corner plus two defending players inside the grid with bibs on. The outside players must try to stretch the two defenders in order to make space for the diagonal pass. In order to do this they can pass laterally and use dummy passes to send the defenders. Players keep count of how many diagonal passes they have completed.

Players are in pairs. <BR>Player 2 starts with the ball, they dribble the ball in a diagonal line to the opposite cone. <BR>Player 1 make a diagonal run towards the opposite cone. <BR>As the player with the ball reaches the cone they play a reverse ball to their partner.

Three players stand behind 1 corner of the grid each. The ball is played to a player on one of the cones. <br />The ball cannot be passed diagonally. The spare player must move to give the ball carrier a second passing option.

Only Square Passes Passing and...

Set up a minimum of 4 pairs of cones in a straight line and get players into pairs, with a player from each pair stood behind the starting cones. In this pairs passing exercise players are only allowed to use straight passes (no diagonal balls). The first pass is played from player 1 (p1) to player 2 (p2). P1 then runs diagonally across the grid to receive the return pass from p2. After passing the ball to p1, p2 must also run to the cone diagonally opposite to receive the next pass. The drill continues in this way until players reach the final cone.

With one ball between two players have to try and pass the ball through the goals 10 times, without making a mistake. You can run this as a competition between pairs or simply use it as a challenge to get players to focus on their passing accuracy.

Aim of the Drill; to pass and have the player of the ball react to the pass and provide support by running to the open space.<Br>Set up a square grid with cones.<Br>Place 3 players on 3 of the corners.<br>Player 2 starts with the ball. He initially has support to his left and right from players 1 and 3.<br>He now passes to player 3, player 3 has only support from player 2. Player 1 must recognize this and run to the occupied cone and re-establish support in 2 directions for the ball handler.

4 players have to try and play the ball from one side of the area to the other by passing it between or around the 2 players in the middle area. 5 interceptions, then swap.

Group in threes. 1 ball per group. Station players as shown in the diagram. Position crab players in the three middle grids.Standing players combine by dribbling and passing to beat the crab and get a shot on the goal. They must shoot before they reach the shaded area. Rotate positions.Have the crab player stand up. How many goals can the offensive players score in four attacks?

Player 1 starts with the ball and passes the ball to player 2. player 1 runs after the ball to try and win the ball off player 2 (not allowed to intercept, only tackle). Player 2 has to at least play 2 touches, one to control and one pass. Every player in turn has to follow his/her own pass and stop in the position of the next player.

Set up a 3 vs. 3 game in a quarter of the pitch. Each team elects a goalkeeper. This player is allowed to use their hands in the defensive end zone. They are not allowed to stay inside the defensive area and must also go forward as an outfield player during attacks on the opposing goal. A team must make at least 2 passes before they can shoot on goal. Award 3 points for every successful pass and 5 points for every goal. The first team to 21 points wins.

How accurate are your players long passes? This fun drill lets you find out. Like on an archery board have different target zones - a central 'bull's eye' and then two outer targets. From one side of the pitch to the other players take it in turns to have 4 consecutive cross-field passes, all the time trying to get the ball to land inside the 'bull's eye'.

Players start on the touchline and side-step quickly inside the pitch towards the blue cone. When they reach the cone the red players should be ready to throw the ball to either the player's heads or chests. Depending on the feed players should either head the ball straight back to the feeder's feet or control and then play the return pass. The red player then plays a wide pass for the blue player to run onto. Once the blue player has run onto the pass they join the back of the feeders' line and the red player runs to the start line.

Set up as shown with gates evenly spread out. 2 players with 1 ball.The drill starts with 1 player rolling the ball across their body and then passing through the gate to their partner.They continue rolling and passing from one end to the other.Players will have to change which foot they roll with and which they pass with depending on which direction they are going.

Player 1 passes the ball to one of the cones for player 2 to receive the ball and pass it back after this player 1 passes the ball to the opposite cone and player 2 again receives the ball and passes it back. Complete ten passes before swapping positions.<br />Cones should not be put to far apart.

For the first part of this drill put your team into 3s and give them one ball per group. Staying inside the grid players must pass between themselves, never standing still, working their way all around the area. Once your players have worked like this for a few minutes you can now add a tackling element into this drill. Players must continue to work the ball around the grid, constantly moving but they must now also try to kick the other team's balls out of the area. The last team in possession of their own ball is the winner.

Set up as shown with cones evenly spaced out.The distance between the cones can be modified depending on your players abilities.Player(s) dribbles through the cones diagonally performing toe taps backwards to get through the cones and then pushing the ball back between the cones with the exterior of their feet.Players should aim to not touch the cones, neither with the ball nor their feet.

Group in pairs. One ball between the pair. Repeat in 5 other areas for a total of 12 players.Player 1 passes the ball across the area to player 2, who must control the ball with the inside of his foot. Player 2 then passes the ball back across the area. Player 1 repeats the practice. The object of the game is to roll the ball over the end line with out the opposing player stopping it. To score a goal, the ball must travel below waist height. Each player should pick his favorite national team and represent that country. The first country to score 5 goals wins the World Cup.Progression: If you pass the ball back first time and score, you get 2 goals.
