1st touch shooting

Encouraging 1st time shooting by using the correct technique to take the shot early and finish from close range. Get your knee over the ball and use the pace of the ball to generate the power. By trying to strike the ball too hard, the likelihoood is the accuracy will be poor. Blue 1 plays ball into area and clue 2 moves in to shoot 1st time. Blue 2 goes to replace blue 1 and blue 1 runs around working area to take blue 2s place.

2 Player Crossing Drill

Players on the wing run with the ball down the side of the pitch before crossing for an attacker who has ran into the area, usually at the far post. Attackers begin further back than the wingers and in line with the corner of the penalty area. Once the coach blows his whistle, the attacker must sprint at full speed to reach the area and get on the end of the cross.

Heading in pairs

two players tryto head the ball to each other as may times as possible.

Instep first touch - Stage 6 (forward)

1 Ball between two players. One player feeds and catches the ball the other player has to play the ball back with the instep of the kicking foot. Both players should be moving backwards and forward saying the same distance apart at all time

Passing and Receiving

Number Shooting - 1v1

Number 2 groups of players from 1-5 and get them to stand on either side of the goal. Call a number. The two players (one from each side) whose number was called race around the cones to enter the area. When a player has entered through the gate the coach feeds the ball to the side where the first player has entered. Player runs onto the ball and tries to score before the other player can make a challenge/block.

1) White 1 stands 10 yards from players.2) Players pass ball to white 1 and run around the D; - white 1 lays ball off for each player to shoot.3) Must be a moving ball.4) Coach - angle of shot - technique and timing.

Point Blank Heading

Players 1, 3 and 5 are feeding the ball towards the 6 yard box. Players 2, 4 and 6 take turns to either head or volley towards goal. Once players have either fed, or shot they swap to the other side.

The player steps out with one foot the the side of the ball. Their other leg then moves around the ball. The ball is then moved with with the original step out leg (outside of the foot) to beat the opponent.

Turn and Pass 1

Set up as shown. Player 1 passes the ball into the feet of player 2 who must turn and pass the ball to one of the three players outside of the cones, either to his left, right or behind him. This drill will not only improve the passing technique of the players, but also improve their awareness; knowing what options they have before receiving the ball.

Where is Waldo

Create a halfway line in the area using discs. Store soccer balls behind each goal. Play 4 v 1 in each half with a goalkeeper. The goalkeeper serves the ball to any of his teammates in his half. They must get a shot on the goal in the opposite field. The lone player in that area is a defender trying to block the shot. The lone player in the opposite area is the cherry picker, following in on the goalkeeper for rebounds. Repeat in the opposite direction. Progression: Take away the halfway line and progress to a full field game of 6 v 6.

Cone Flicks Reaction Save Goal...

GK starts in centre of the goal and a row of cones are placed to one side of the goal.With quick feet the GK flicks one of the cones with their leading hand and quickly gets into set position to make a save.

Wide Position Recovery Goalkee...

Central server and server from wide on the angle.GK turns in from the post. Then receives a shot around the body.GK catches the ball and plays back to Server 1. They then must quickly adjust to get into position and receive a shot from Server 2.

Goalkeeper comes in steps round the front of the cone on the near post and gets into set position for a shot from Server 1 from the angle.Followed by a shot from Server 2 from the angle.

High Save Technique Goalkeepin...

GK advances forward and takes short step over the first cone.Server 1 holds the ball as high as possible and out in front with one hand.GK then takes a shuffle step towards the ball and knocks the ball off the servers hand with their top hand.Alternate between both sides.

3 Point Serve Progression Shoo...

Set up 3 service points around the goal. Make sure one is central and two others either sideOne GK working. Servers should take it in turns to drill the ball from the floor to the working GK.GK saves/catches the ball and returns it to where the kick came from.GK returns quickly to set position for the next shot.Good for outfield players to work at striking the ball at the target too.
