1 Touch Shooting

Position players in groups of 4 as shown in the diagram. Repeat in 2 other areas for a total of 12 players. The server (player 3) stands behind the goalkeeper. He makes a pass out to the shooter who strikes the ball 1st time at the goal. This shot must come from the grid at the right of the diagram. Player 2 retrieves any balls from behind the goal. Repeat and rotate.Progression: Serve the ball for a volley or 1/2 volley.

Attacking the Crossed Ball

Organize groups of 6. Station goalkeepers in a goal at each end line. Place 2 players inside the area and 2 wide players outside the area. Goalkeepers should have a supply of balls. Repeat in another area for a total of 12 players. White goalkeeper distributes the ball to player white 1, who advances the ball up the touchline with his first touch and crosses the ball to player white 2 with his second touch. Keepers must stay on their line throughout the practice. Repeat in the opposite direction from red goalkeeper to red player 1 and red player 2. The wide player should attempt to vary his crosses to near, middle and far post positions.

6 players and 2 catchers. Both catchers have a ball each. Catchers move around the area and attempt to throw their ball to hit one of the players on or below the knee. To do this, catchers must either bounce the ball or head, thigh or volley the ball every 3 paces. The other 6 players try to escape having the ball thrown at them below the knee by running around the area. If a player is caught, he joins the catchers. As only two balls are allowed in the game at one time, they can be passed between catchers. Catchers cannot move with the ball

Chest control, spin and pass

Player 1 hand feeds the ball to player 2 at chest height. Player 2 then must control using their chest and thigh so that they can turn and play an instep volley into player 3's hands.

Control and Shoot - simple pairs drill

Player 2 plays an in field pass to player 1 and then follows their pass. Player 1 either: Controls the ball and shoots or Shoots first time.

Instep first touch - Stage 1

1 Ball between two players. One player feeds and catches the ball the other player has to catch the ball and bring up the kicking foot to learn where to volley the ball with the instep of the foot

With one ball between two players the feeder throws the ball to the other player, just below their knee height. The other player should pass the ball back into the hands of the feeder using a first time instep pass.

Passing and Shooting

Player 2 passes to player 1 in the centre then follows the pass. Player 1 either controls the ball and shoots or shoots first time. The type of pass used can be varied so to vary the shot used. For example a lofted pass may be used to introduce the use of a volley when shooting.

White player 1 runs the length of the field at match pace and makes their move to run onto the ball served in by Red player 1. White player should then shoot on goal.

Players 1, 3 and 5 are feeding the ball towards the 6 yard box. Players 2, 4 and 6 take turns to either head or volley towards goal. Once players have either fed, or shot they swap to the other side.

GK1 Starts with ball in same stance and throws ball to GK2. GK2 side foot volleys the ball back into the hand of GK1.The server and GK swith sides and join the back of the opposing line. Can be done with a larger of number of goalkeepers or works as well in pairs.

Heading Variations Heading - F...

Working in pairs one player feeds whilst the other player is the returning player who heads the ball back to the feeder's hands. However, the returning player must have their wits about them as they need to listen out to the feeder's call. The feeder has three calls - Feet, attacking and defensive. Depending on the call the heading player must perform a different sort of header.
