Tennis: Serve with Opening

DESCRIPTION

Player serves from one side. Coach feeds random ball as a return. Player reacts and hits the next shot to the open space.

COACHING POINTS

It is important that coach feeds different balls to make process more effective. Balls should be short, deep, flat, with topspin/backspin, to backhand/forehand etc. Coach should emphasise proper decisions related to different balls to improve also tactical skills.

Serve And Body Ball | Serve and Return

Serve And Body Ball:

Player serves the ball, and immediately after serving, the coach tosses a deep ball into player's body. The player's goal is to move back and hit with control.

Short Width, Full Width | Movement

Short Width, Full Width:

Player starts in the middle and sprints to the deuce corner, imitating a forehand stroke. Immediately, the player changes direction and sprints all the way to the other corner to finish imitating backhand stroke.

Quick Change | Movement

Quick Change:

Coach stands in front of the player and feeds random balls (Forehand, Backhand, Low, Short, Deep etc). Player has to react and adjust to incoming balls.

Turn and Hit | Movement

Turn and Hit:

Player starts on the service line (facing back fence).

Player shuffles from side to side until when the coach says "GO!" and feeds the ball.

The player's goal is to then turn, react and hit the volley.
