Tennis: Pocket Serve

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player executes regular serve.
  • Player focuses on bringing the tossing arm to the opposite pocket as well as on moving the hitting arm to the left side of the body.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on serving’ technique.
  • Serving motion should be fluid to allow players to get the most of this shot.
  • Any mechanical moves or parts of the serve that put body out of balance will obstruct the final quality of the serve and its effectiveness. That is why controlling the position of tossing and hitting arms has to be trained to make this complex move really natural.
  • Tossing arm should go under the body and hitting arm should decelerate in a controlled movement to the opposite side of the body to prevent possible injuries and to achieve desired consistency.
