DESCRIPTION

Coach feeds easy ball around the service line.
Player attacks using forehand and moves forward to the net.
Player should stay on the same side where he hit the last ball too.

COACHING POINTS

In this drill player works on an attacking shot connected with conscious tactical position.
The rule that applies to positioning at the net is that the player should be on the same side where they hit the last ball.
With this position player is able to cover both cross-court and down the line passing shots so opponent has limited options.
Coach should pay attention to the speed of the run because moving slow won't allow the player to be in a good position while the opponent is hitting.

Attacking forehands on the move:

Coach feeds three balls per player from the basket.

Players should aim to hit the targets (as in diagram - can use cones to mark out targets).

The aim is to encourage players to progressively attack on the move.

Forehand Drills

Approach from the Alley:

The coach stands in front of the player and throws the ball to the deuce alley. The player sprints, hits forehand approach from the alley and follows to the net.

Forehand Drills

Back and Forth:

Both players start at service line. Red 1 has to hit a ground stroke and then approach the net and play a volley back to Blue 1 and then return to service line. Repeat 6-10 shots then stop for Blue 1 to continue drill.

Volley Drills

Balancing on the outside leg:

Player stands on his/her right leg on the service line. Coach feeds balls to the player's forehand side. Player hops to the ball on one leg and hits a forehand volley back to the coach.
