Linsent, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Coach stands next to the player with racket in hand.
  • Coach moves arm with the racket towards the side of the player (waist’s height).
  • Player shadows backhand motion with the aim of moving the racket’s head below the coaches racket.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on backhand’s topspin.
  • It is important to understand how to hit topspin and go through simple exercises at the beginning to make this process easier and help player to feel the motion as fast as possible.
  • Coach should pay attention to the player’s racket head (angle of the racket and position related to the kept racket).
  • If the player doesn’t have problems with fluid motion of backhand topspin, coach can keep the same exercise but can add dropping a ball to make player physically hit the ball with desired topspin pathway.
