DESCRIPTION

  • Coach feeds lob ball.
  • Player hits overhead after the bounce back to the coach.
  • Coach hits another lob.
  • Player finishes with overhead deep to the ad side.

COACHING POINTS

In this drill, player works on 2 types of overheads - hitting after the bounce is a completely different stroke than hitting in the air so players should practise both of these. Coach should remind players to pay attention to proper positioning as this factor is responsible for most mistakes while hitting overheads. Additionally, coach should make players aware of when to use a lot of power or when it is more recommended to go with spin to improve the effectiveness in during a match situation.
