Tennis: Serve Kick T And Forehand

The days of scratching practice drills and plays on scraps of paper...
Andrew

DESCRIPTION

  • Player serves to the T from deuce side
  • Coach feeds the ball to the ad side
  • Player takes forehand and hits it to the ad side

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on serving pattern to hit forehand as a first shot in the rally
  • From the deuce court, hitting to the T is a good choice because opponent will have difficult situation to place the ball into ad area where server won't have a time and space to run around and take forehand
  • More often, opponent will not risk as much and server will be able to dominate the point with own forehand
  • In this pattern, player directs own forehand to the ad side to add more pressure to the backhand side of the rival and to send him a message that he will have to deal with many balls played with the backhand
