Focus on gaining interest of the little kids.Let them have a feel of the original Cricket Grears.Use soft ball for catching practice initially & latter convert to cricket balls.Batting-First let the kids play basic shots with soft balls in nets.
In the pyramid of coaching you need to focus on the basics at a younger age while keeping everybody involved at the same time. Use a tennis, incredi or windball for the 7 year olds as they wont play hardball till they are 9. Coordination, speed, agility and concentration are good areas to focus on. Coordination%3A Catching (high, diving, Squares) and picking up a rolling ball. Speed%3A Chasing the ball, running between the wickets. Agility%3A Jumping for the ball, slalom through cones. Concentration%3A Counting catches in pairs, circle catching. The youngsters love diamond cricket, if you know the game I'd definitely play it Hope this helps.
It really doesn't matter what you do with them. All they care about is having fun and playing with just about anything they can get their hands on. Knowing that, a training sessions designed for 7 year olds, should focus on presentation and communication; explain 'drills' in a way they know. For instance, if you're going to let them do a motor skill drill, let them be animals, vehicles, go mad! Again, the session has to focus on fun and enjoyment. Remember that they are only 7! If you don't know how to relate to them, ask them!
