I currently coach a 12 year old girl, who when playing well is a huge talent, seemingly playing off her confidence. However, when she makes a mistake she seems to completely shut down and becomes frustrated by the game. Does anyone have any tips about how to keep her confidence after a mistake?
Hello! I had a simulator problem with one of My students. What i learnt is that besides being the Coach i also needed to play psychologist/ mind fixer/ mental Coach . First u need to understand whats happening in her mind. Why she looses focus. Then in small steps work on focusing on the next point. You might be down 0-40 but u can still come back and win the game. Patience is what u as a Coach need! Dont rush her. Make her understand that lossing one Point dsnt mean loosing the match!!
Ask her how she feels about it. Then continue your lesson. Give her the time to think about her actions, I find that talented tennis players can easily work through better outcomes over time when faced aggression. Itâs an inner peace when the new point starts, have them find it on their own. Nothing is wrong that canât be corrected in this game. So enjoy it and learn. Sometimes it takes getting mad to realize you have been holding back.
