Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how to teach a block return from serve and a slice return from serve to 13y.o juniors who are playing against big servers Cheers
Essentially you teach it like a volley. Very little arm action involved (almost no backswing), and most of the pace is generated from blocking the big serve back and moving the hips/legs forward.
Chers Michael will give that a try
Hi guys,
To sollicit little backswing and not to overload the muscles from the juniors, I serve from inside the servicebox to the returner that stands on the baseline in normal returnposition.
The speed of the service is moderate but the frequency of shots(ie serve) does the trick...
and remember play with...PASSION!
Just like Michael. The return of fast serve is a ... volley. Volley the ball! That is practically all you have to tell your players.
A slight forehand grip can also make it easier to slice the return on the backhand and block it on the forehand.
