Full court passing and dribbling

Players are stood in each corner of the court with two players stood in the center circle. On the coach's signal players 1 and 2 start dribbling before passing to players 3 and 4 respectively who return the pass. Players 1 and 2 then dribble further before passing to players 5 and 6 and moving towards the elbow of the free throw line to receive the return pass from players 5 and 6. They then immediately pass to the players 7 and 8. Players 1 and 2 should now replace players 5 and 6.

Setup the practice as shown.Player 1 passes to player 2 before running up to first cone and receiving the pass back from player 2. They then make a cross-court pass to player 3 before running around the cones to receive the pass back player 3. They then turn and shoot.

Players line up on two sides, with one player stood in the middle. The ball starts on the side where there are most players lined up. The first player passes to the middle player and runs to the left to receive the return pass. Players then perform a quick one-two pass before passing the ball to the player on the opposite side. The drill then starts again, with the player who made the initial pass remaining in the middle.

Player 1 dribbles diagonally while player 2 cuts behind them. Player 1 gives a hand off pass and player 2 dribbles away, change the direction and then go for another hand off pass and continue all the way down the floor and finish with a lay up shot.

One player stands on each cone with a fifth player standing between two of the players, with the ball in hand. The player in front of the player in possession should set off on a lead run and receive the pass from the fifth player. After running onto the pass the next player in the square should make a lead run, looking to receive the next pass. After passing players should continue to run until they reach the unoccupied cone.

Player 1 passes to Player 2 and then cuts behind the strong side and receives a pass from Player 2. After the pass Player 2 sprints down the court for a return pass from Player 1 before going for a lay up shot. Player 1 goes for a rebound.

Fast Break and Lay Up Passing ...

The idea of this drill is to develop the fast break, with one player dribbling down the middle of the court and the other 2 players acting as outlet players each side. The the ball starts in the middle. This player (1) passes to the outlet player on their right (2). The player with the ball (2) then dribbles directly down the middle of the court. The player that passed (1) the ball then sprints down the right side of the court. The player who dribbled the ball (2) will then pass to this player (1) so they can make a lay up. Once the shot has been taken the passer (2) should get the rebound and outlet to the player who made the shot (1).

Two grids of equal size both with 4 players inside. One team starts with the ball and passes it around inside their area, trying to keep possession. In order to steal the ball and get the ball for their team one player from the other grid is allowed to enter the opposition team's grid and chase down the ball. When they win the ball the player plays an unopposed pass into their grid, follows their pass and then the exercise starts again.

Finish every session with ghost play. The best place to do this is a side court in a sports hall where you have a wall or access to a throw bag. If there are no walls or sports bags then use a spin back. Imagine being in a game situation making passes, moving off picks, posting up and rebounding. Make all the plays imaginable. Always be an offensive player doing all the scoring and controlling the game completely. Pass off the walls, rebound off the wall and through outlet passes, bring the ball up to court and even take foul shots. Do all the things you would do in a real game. Cutting off pick to catch and shoot. Keep the score close playing to 20. If one team gets to close tip in some miss shots to bring the game back close. Have the game ties at 18-18, count down from 10 seconds or tip in the miss to win.

3 players work with one ball between them inside a quarter of the court. In the middle of the half of area is a cone. Player 1, with the ball in hand, starts on one of the corners of the grid and passes to player 2 after they have run inside the area, touched the cone, and then run outside into open space to receive the pass. Player 2 then passes to player 3 and the drill continues.
