Jailbreak

One team runs clockwise round the inside of the circle with the other team running anti-clockwise around the outside of the circle (blue cones). When the coach shouts 'Jailbreak' the players inside the inner circle try to 'escape' to outside the 10m x 10m square (yellow cones). The inside team scores a point for each 'jailbreaker' - swap over. If you have an odd number of players give the defenders the extra man.

Warmup

Number Shooting Game Shooting ...

Split all your players into two teams and have them line up on opposite sides of the court.2 basketballs are placed at mid-court.Each player is given a number (eg. 1-5).The coach will set out a basket that each team will shoot at.The coach will call out a number.When the number is called out, the corresponding number will run out to get the ball, dribble to the basket and keep shooting till the shot is made.Once the shot is made the players will run after the ball and dribble it back to the center circle.The first player to score and get the ball back to the center circle wins.

8 man passing drill Passing - ...

For this drill the minimum number is 8 players but more players can participate by joining to form a queue behind number 2, 3, or 4 on either side. Although only shown on the left side of the court, this drill is run simultaneously on both sides. The aim of this drill is to look at good passing to a moving player and the ability to send a good pass for a player to perform a lay-up without needing to put the ball on the floor or travel.

5 man Weave Passing - Basketba...

Players are numbered from one to five with player number one starting with the ball to the right of the key. player number one will then pass the ball to player number two, following the direction of their pass and joining the left hand side of the court behind player number four. Player number two will then pass to number three, also following their pass and the movement continues... Once the players have reached the other side of the court the player with the ball should make make a layup and attempt to score.

One-two Pass and Shoot Shootin...

Player one passes the ball so that it reaches player 2's hands as they run out. Once the first pass has been made player 1 runs down the wing looking to receive the return pass before cutting in court to enter the key and have a shot.

3 Man Runner Passing Drill Pas...

3 lines with the basketball starting in the middle.The ball is passed to a side, then back to the middle and then over to the other side.The ball is always passed back to the middle.Once the half court has been reached the players on the side will turn back the other way and run towards the basket.The player in the middle with the ball will dribble down the middle and make a pass to one of the players for a lay-up.

Players are lined up in 2 lines near half way. 2 balls in rotation. Player from one line runs out to receive a bounce pass from opposing line, players take a shot.

Pass and move - Cone V Cut Pas...

Players work in teams of 4 with 1 ball per team. Tell the players to number themselves 1 to 4 and they have to pass the ball from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 and then to 1 again and continue. Do this for a minute so the players can get used to who passes to who. Once they have established the pattern tell the player that after they pass the ball they have to run around one of the outside corner cones before they can come in and receive the ball again.

Hot Seat- Shooting Game Games ...

Set up as shown in diagram.If the player makes the shot, then they will go to the back of the line and the next player will shoot.If a player misses a shot, then they will go stand by the cone (this place is called the "hot seat")If the next player makes the shot, then the player on the "hot seat" is out.If the next player misses then the player on the "hot seat" goes to the back of the line and the player who missed takes their place on the "hot seat".The winner is the last person in the game.

Pairs move down and back up the court passing to each other using a bounce pass.<br>When the player with the ball reaches the 3 point line make a bounce pass into the path of the other player.<br>Receiving player scores with a layup.

The coach will put targets on the wall (either with tape of a piece of card) at different heights along the wall for the full length of the court. In front of every target is a cone that is a different distance away from the wall.For every target the player hits they get a certain number of points.Keep track of the points and give a prize or praise to the winner.

3 Man weave down the court. <br> When players reach the halfway line, player with the ball places ball on the ground and becomes the defender. <br>The other two players pick up the ball and play out a 2v1.

Two groups of players, each group with one ball. Two players are standing opposite the groups at the distance approx. 4 metres. O1 and O2 pass to opposite players and goes to opposite group and continue.

Footwork warm up Warmup - Bask...

Players run around, avoiding the hoops on the floor. When they hear the whistle they must perform a stride stop (this is where their first foot lands inside the hoop and second outside). The foot inside the hoop is not allowed to move. The player must then pivot on their standing leg before then jogging off in another direction. When players hear two whistles they must jump stop, landing inside a hoop with both feet together. Player then select their pivot foot, moving the non-pivoting foot out of the hoop in order to pivot and change direction.

Section off half of one of the thirds for 5 players, each with a ball. Each player bounces the ball whilst walking around the area. At the same time they try to knock other player's balls away.The last player with a ball wins.

After passing the ball players must run around a cone before rejoining the playing area. Once players have run around a cone they are eligible to receive a pass again.

In and Out - V-Cut Passing - B...

3 players work with one ball between them inside a quarter of the court. In the middle of the half of area is a cone. Player 1, with the ball in hand, starts on one of the corners of the grid and passes to player 2 after they have run inside the area, touched the cone, and then run outside into open space to receive the pass. Player 2 then passes to player 3 and the drill continues.

Player 1 passes to player 3 who then passes to player 2. Once player 3 has passed the ball he then runs to player 1 and shouts &quot;Go&quot;, player 1 then goes to where player 3 was. Player 2 then passes to player 1 and they then pass to player 4.Player 1 then runs to player 2 and exchanges positions.

Dribbling for very young kids?

Hi all, great website. Just wondering if anyone has any tips/drills on really drumming into the kids that as soon as they get passed the ball they must dribble/shoot/pass rather than just running (and travelling!) down the court! Bear in mind these are beginner little girls who have never played before!! I'm doing lots of dribbling drills but thought you might all have some tips. Thanks in advance :)
