3s Close-out shooting drill

Setup as shown. Player 1 passes the ball to player 2 before following their pass to put pressure on the receiver. Player 2 then dribbles around the cones on either the left or right before having a shot. Player will act as the rebounder.

Player 1 shoots, collects own rebound and passes to Player 2 Player 1 cuts out to a different shooting spot following their pass and adding a bit of pressure (but not blocking) to their partner's shot Player 2 shoots, collects their own rebound and finds Player 1 with a good pass Before cutting to a different shooting spot Follow their pass and add some pressure to their partner's shot.

Set out the cones as shown in the diagram. One player starts with a ball with two other players starting in the middle of the cross (compass). One player is an attacker with the other a shadowing defender. The player with the ball has to pass the ball to the attacker, who then passes the ball back. The attacker must then run to another point (cone) of the compass before returning to the middle to receive another pass.

Full Court Dribble Drill

Players will dribble up court with their right hand and back with their left hand. To begin with this should be done at a comfortable pace, ensuring players keep the ball under control. However, after a practice run you can then line up your players so that they perform this dribble drill under race pressure.

Players with a ball try and get to the other side without being caught (must dribble the ball). None of the players are allowed on the islands (Set up area with cones).

Players line up opposite each other. Player 1 passes to Player 2 and then follows their pass to put pressure on the attacker. The attacker has to go around the cone on either their left or right before passing the ball back to next person waiting in the queue. The player waiting in the queue then throws the ball back to player 2 before the drill can start again.

Shoot under pressure

Player 1 passes the ball inside the key to player 2 and follows their pass. Before they enter they key player 1 cuts out to receive the return pass from player 2. At this point player 1 should dribble towards the basket with the intention of scoring. However, as soon as player 2 passes the ball they are allowed to close down and put pressure on player 1. Once Player 1 has taken their shot player 2 should collect the ball and drive out of the area before joining the back of the attacking queue. Player 1 joins the back of the defending queue.

Players line up at the half way line. The first player in the group starts with the ball. Player 2 stands on the left hand side of the court and player 3 stands at the corner on the right hand side. Player 1 passes to player 2, fakes to go the other way and then goes towards the ball and receives the return pass. Player 1 pivots (use front or reverse pivot) and passes the ball to player 3 before then performing a V cut towards the other side of the court, stopping and then pivoting towards the ball to receive the pass from player 3 and executes a lay up shot. After the lay up shot player 1 plays an outlet pass to player 2 and then goes to replace player 3. Player 3 replace player 2 who then passes to the next starting player and goes to join the back of the queue.

This is a high pressure shooting drill designed to teach players to hold their ground and shoot under pressure. Rules: Players must shoot from inside the key. No dribbling (once they have the ball they must shoot). Players must make a basket before they can get out of the key in this all against all drill.Once a player scores and gets out a new player must come in (start with 6 players inside the key).

They then play 1 v 1, with the rules being only 3 dribbles and 1 shot.

The coach has the ball at the top. White player 1 is playing for 2 mins against 2 defenders. The practice starts with white player 1 getting free from his defender before receiving a pass from the coach, and going 1 v 1 with the defender.Once the game is over the attacker runs to the other side before repeating the practice.

Split your players into 3 groups. The middle players (in green) start the practice by throwing the ball off the backboard and then scoring the rebound. The rebounder then passes the ball to blue player 1 who then runs the length of the court to try and score. Red player 1 will run up the court at the same time as them and try to prevent them from scoring in a one vs one.

Players line up around the edge of the 3 point line with a defender behind each of them. Each of the attackers has a ball with their back to the basket. The coach calls out one of the defenders names and they tap the attacker in front of them on the shoulder.The attacker turns to face the defender and they play a 1 v 1. The attacker has only 3 dribbles, whilst the defender has to try and either stop the dribble, box out or close the baseline.

Start with 5 players on court as attackers.Ball starts on half way. 3 players at top creating a triangle, 2 players under hoop.Player with the ball passes to the 'strong side' and stack. Ball is passed around. Any player can put a shot up as long as the triangle is maintained. Players still hold triangle formation around the key - this gives options on offence.

Receiving playersd take a shot and sollect the rebound to pass the ball back to the next two player by the 3 point line.

These are very short range sit ups with knees bent and feet flat on the floor keeping hands crossed on the chest. Do not bring your hands behind your head. Left towards your thighs and lower down until just where the lower back touches the floor and rise again. Keep constant pressure on the abdominal muscles. If this is too easy then lift your feet up off the floor.

When they are just over half way towards player 2 they then make a sharp change of direction and cut out, running hard towards the cone where they will receive the return pass. After receiving the ball player 1 should try and shoot as quickly as possible from outside the key, before then collecting the ball and playing an outlet pass to player 2 who has moved wide to receive the ball.

Away from the wall the players stand in 2 lines staggered so coach/teacher can see all players. Coach will then direct the players a direction to move by pointing in different directions ( left, right, forward,back) Players must keep their knees bent, backs straight, one arm dribbling, one arm guarding, lead foot moving heel toe and their back foot sliding. When teacher shouts FOOT FIRE! players must move their feet quickly on the spot for a set time.
