Hot Seat- Shooting Game

Set up as shown in diagram. If the player makes the shot, then they will go to the back of the line and the next player will shoot. If a player misses a shot, then they will go stand by the cone (this place is called the "hot seat") If the next player makes the shot, then the player on the "hot seat" is out. If the next player misses then the player on the "hot seat" goes to the back of the line and the player who missed takes their place on the "hot seat". The winner is the last person in the game.

Individual cuts and shooting

Start at the three-point line extended. Toss the ball on a spin back into the middle of the circle 2 meters above the free throw line. Jab stab and cut to catch and shoot. Work on the quick stop or the two-count stop into the shot. Shoot 50 shots.

Number Shooting Game

Split all your players into two teams and have them line up on opposite sides of the court. 2 basketballs are placed at mid-court. Each player is given a number (eg. 1-5). The coach will set out a basket that each team will shoot at. The coach will call out a number. When the number is called out, the corresponding number will run out to get the ball, dribble to the basket and keep shooting till the shot is made. Once the shot is made the players will run after the ball and dribble it back to the center circle. The first player to score and get the ball back to the center circle wins.

Basketball: Practise shooting ...

Pull up about 4 meters out and shoot a drop shot. Imagine having to shoot over bigger people so put a little bit more height on the ball to stimulate a game situation. Make sure this drill is done in both directions changing hands each time. Do this drill from anywhere on the court beyond the perimeter three point line. Use different changes in direction dribbles like behind the back, through the legs and spin dribbles. Take shots from 4-8 feet.

Shooting - First to 21 Shootin...

Players line up outside the key in two lines, with one ball per line. The first player to run must shoot as soon as they enter the key. If they score their team get 2 points, if they miss but catch the rebound before it hits the floor and then score their team gets 1 point. If they miss altogether their team gets no points. The winning team is the one which gets to 21 points first.

One-two Pass and Shoot Shootin...

Player one passes the ball so that it reaches player 2's hands as they run out. Once the first pass has been made player 1 runs down the wing looking to receive the return pass before cutting in court to enter the key and have a shot.

Knockout Shooting - Basketball...

A line at the free-throw line. The 1st 2 players will have a basketball. The player in front always gets to shoot 1st. As soon as the player in front shoots the player behind can shoot. If the shot is missed, you get your rebound and can shoot as close as you like. The 1st shot must be taken from the free-throw line. A player gets knocked out if the player behind scores before they do.

2 players work with 1 basketball. Players must catch and shoot on the move. Once a player has shot they should catch their own rebound and pass to the other players. Once the player has passed the ball, they should make a run/cut and then get ready to shoot the ball.

Pairs move down and back up the court passing to each other using a bounce pass.<br>When the player with the ball reaches the 3 point line make a bounce pass into the path of the other player.<br>Receiving player scores with a layup.

Players are lined up in 2 lines near half way. 2 balls in rotation. Player from one line runs out to receive a bounce pass from opposing line, players take a shot.

3 v 3 Games - Basketball Drill...

Split the class into groups of 6. With 3 defenders and 3 attackers. One team starts with the ball and is attacking the basket, with the other team defending. If the defenders get the ball then the roles are reversed.

Catch the ball passing game Ga...

One defending player is trying to catch the player in possession of the ball. Players in possession of the ball can not move. Players without the ball can move though to make themselves available to receive the pass. If a player is caught whilst in possession of the ball they must now become the catcher and the drill starts again.

Shooting competition in pairs ...

Spot shooting (in pairs) Set out five cones around the basket. Player must shoot from one and then move to the next cone and continue shooting for 1 minute ( players must not shoot from same spot twice in a row). The player's partner will be rebounding for them. After 1 minute they swap roles. Rebounder keeps score. (remember 1 basket = 2 points)

Have a chair set up about 18-20 feet away from the basket. You can set the chair up on either side of the court. The purpose of the drill is to teach players to go at speed, beat their defender with a dribble move then go into a shot.

Ghost play at the end of a ses...

Finish every session with ghost play. The best place to do this is a side court in a sports hall where you have a wall or access to a throw bag. If there are no walls or sports bags then use a spin back. Imagine being in a game situation making passes, moving off picks, posting up and rebounding. Make all the plays imaginable. Always be an offensive player doing all the scoring and controlling the game completely. Pass off the walls, rebound off the wall and through outlet passes, bring the ball up to court and even take foul shots. Do all the things you would do in a real game. Cutting off pick to catch and shoot. Keep the score close playing to 20. If one team gets to close tip in some miss shots to bring the game back close. Have the game ties at 18-18, count down from 10 seconds or tip in the miss to win.

Cross over shooting drill Shoo...

Setup the practice as shown.Split the group into two teams.First team to score 10 baskets is the winner.On the command both teams dribble to the middle of the 3 point line, cross-over and then shoot. The player that has a shot has to go and get their ball and pass it back to the next person in the queue.

Close Out- Box Out Drill Shoot...

Players set up as shown in video clip. The line of players under the basket will each have a basketball. A pass will be made from the line on the baseline to the line at the top.<br /><br /> Once the pass has been received that player will take a shot. The passer of the ball will run out and do a close out with their hand up to contest the shot.<br /><br /> After the shot has been released they will turn and box out to get the rebound.

Player 1 starts the move by passing the ball to player 2. Just as the first pass is being made player 3 runs diagonally in court in preparation to receive the ball from player 2. Player 2 passes the ball to player 3 who has a shot from the edge of the key. Meanwhile player 1 should have run up court and is positioned ready to receive the rebound if player 3's shot misses.

The coach will put targets on the wall (either with tape of a piece of card) at different heights along the wall for the full length of the court. In front of every target is a cone that is a different distance away from the wall.For every target the player hits they get a certain number of points.Keep track of the points and give a prize or praise to the winner.

Set up: 2 balls, 2 lines of players behind hoop on baseline.Player drives around and out to recieve a pass from the opposite line and puts a shot up. Ball gets passed to line on opposite side driven from. Progression: Drive wider and shoot or lay up.

Player 1 passes the ball to players 2. Player 1 follows the pass to then cut out to the cone to receive the ball back from player 2. Player 1 drives to the basket and shoots or does a lay-up and collects the rebound to give a outlet pass to player 2. swap roles.

In fours play this first to make 10 points game. Players stand in various positions (in front of the basket, to the right and to the left). Use cones to mark three spots. A 4th player assists with returning the ball after rebounds.

Pass Run and Shoot Shooting - ...

Player 1 passes the ball to player 2 and makes a V cut run, running towards the elbow of the free throw line before cutting in to meet the pass. When player one receives the pass from they shoot from where they caught the ball. If they miss they may follow up with a rebound before playing an outlet pass to player 2 who then passes the ball back into the line of players before joining the back of the queue. Player 1 now takes player 2's role and the dril continues.

The group of players based on the halfway line start by running towards the elbow of the three point line. On receiving the ball the player should then shoot. The practice is then repeated on the other side of the arc.
