Basketball: Defensive Conditio...

Players stand on each side of the hoop. On the coach's whistle they will jump and touch the backboard 5 times, before then turning and sprint back on defence.

Setup the practice as shown.White player 1 and Blue Player 1 begin to dribble in a diamond shape as shown. One must try and catch up with the other to tag them. Keep score.

Small area Tag Games - Basketb...

Mark out a small area, typically 1/3 of the court (depends on group size). Select someone to be the tagger. All the playes in the group have balls and on the coach's call start to dribble around the area. On the coach's second call the tagger starts to dribble with their ball after the other members of the group, trying to tag them. If they successfully tag someone then they now become the tagger.

One of the players starts with the ball After passing the ball to the player on the next cone they have to run and touch the cone in the middle and return to their cone. the 2nd player does the same and the exercise should be able to continue round and round.

Pass & Move Footwork and Movem...

One player has a ball and another player starts in the middle of a cross-shaped set of cones. On the command, Red Player 1 moves to touch one of the cones before returning back to the middle to receive a pass from White 1.The player then has to touch a different cone before returning back to the middle to receive a pass. Once the middle player has touched all four cones then the player switch over.

Player will bend at the back whilst reaching down trying to touch their toes. The player will slowly fall forward till their hands touch the ground. Once their hands have touched the ground they will walk their hands forward until they are in a push-up position. From this position they will walk their feet forward keeping the knees locked out in order to stretch the calf muscles. Once they have stood up, they will continue the stretch doing the same series again.

Two players with one ball, Player 1 passes to Player 2 once the player has passed the ball they have to go to the distance marker 2m away and turn to receive the ball back again.

Stand on the baseline below the backboard;Two-footed jump arms raised above the head to touch the backboard with both hands;Land two footed on the toes;Bend knees, absorb energy, and two-footed jump back up to touch the backboard;If players cannot jump that high in one motion, take a second jump, gaining more power from the knee bend.

Pass and go! Diagonal running ...

2 players with one ball, 4 cones. Player 1 chest passes to player 2 and then turns and runs diagonally to the first cone, touching it before returning to the starting spot to receives the return pass from player 2. Player 2 does the same as player 1. The second time round players run diagonally to touch the opposite cone.

Pairs Tag Games - Basketball D...

Everyone starts with a ball and finds a partner. Each pair will need a ball each and they have to dribble around within a suitable area whilst holding the hand of their partner.The coach nominates people to be the catchers. These people can dribble around freely (without having to link arms) and try and tag someone. If they do then the person they tag becomes a catcher and they take their place.

The player will stand just in front of the backboard(to the side of the rim). The player will jump and reach out with both arms to try and touch the backboard. Once the player lands they will jump straight back up.

Set-up over about 30m. Use three blocks of wood or something similar, evenly spaced across the working area. Crab sideways, as fast as possible as possible but do not bring your feet together. Collect each block in first hand and transfer to other hand and replace on ground. In training to be a top player do this drill twice a day.

You have to turn into a run when an offensive player beats you. Start in the corner of the court or in a grassy area. Go two steps back then glide about 2 meters then go into a run. Do not rise up when running.Stay low to the floor. Take three running steps and then return to a glide. Cover a total distance of about 25 meters. Do a total of four in both directions.

Setup the cones as shown.All players have a ball each.Split the group into two teams one of which is taggers and the others are trying to escape.On the whistle both teams start dribbling (anti-clockwise)around the cones. Cones will be set up as shown in the video. Two players will be competing against each other. On the coach's whistle the players must touch each cone 5 times. Once they have done that it is the 1st player to grab the cone in the middle.

When the player brings the ball down from above his head he is going to go into the dribble. Place feet wide apart so the player cannot go past you. Go two steps back to create a gap and go into a dribble defense mode. Knees bent, back bent, feet wide and hands down and outwards. Look wide and intimidating. Alternate which foot is dropped first. Do this drill ten times.

Players will jump as high as they can off the one leg, once they land they will switch over to the other leg and again jump as high as they can. This is the same technique as skipping except that each jump you are going as high as possible.

Basketball: Simulate breakdown...

This drill will simulate breakdown play being the furthermost defender. Start at the guard position denying the ball. In the glide position go up and back twice then go into a help position opening up to the lane at the free throw lane. There is now an imaginary baseline breakdown. The offensive player is driving to the basket. Another [virtual] defensive player who has been guarding a player on your side moves to stop the ball handler, which leaves an offensive man wide open. Drop down to the base line under the basket to deflect or steal and pass made. The only offensive player who is completely open should be the player previously being marked, who is furthermost from the play and thus has the poorest percentage change at the basket. The [virtual] pass is thrown over the top to this man. React again to intercept this pass. Run onto the offensive player who is now into his shooting motion, jump to bother his shot. Do this drill three times on each side. Once this drill is perfected it can be used for quickness cutting the repetitions down to just 2 each.

Basketball: defending to make ...

To simulate a breakdown in play pretend an opponent man is on the baseline about 2 meters away from the key opposite the ball handler. The objective is to make the offensive player to take a shot outside of the key. Chairs or bins can be placed on the wings to open up peripheral vision. Turning to run, not glide into the help position. Try to simulate picking up the ball handler before he enters the lane. Defend the ball handler who is moving forward at speed. Give ground by initially going backwards. Block the shot and block out the rebound. Do this drill 6 times on each side of the key.

Should the ball touch my palm ...

When i crossover or dribble sometimes my palm touches the ball? i was taught to never let the ball touch your palm and to use your fingerpads is this normal?
