3 Man Motion Drill

P1 is in triple threat position. P2 & P3 make a V-cut run looking to receive the pass from P1. P1 can pass to either side. After passing P1 looks to receive the pass back after making a V-cut run and then shoots a lay-up. P2 & P3 follow up for the rebound and then all rotate one spot anti so that the drill continues.

2 is in triple threat position(i) 1, 3 & 4 all are v-cutting(ii)2 pass to 4(iii)2 cut to basket(iii)1 down screen for 3(iv) 4 pass to any player for shotrebound & rotate clockwise

Defensive Close Out

Players will run 10-15 feet before they chop their feet in a defensive position which is known as a close-out.

Defense

Five times run and shoot

Working in pairs one players stands under the basket with the other player on the half way line. The player on the half way line runs towards the key to receive the ball from the other player. Once they receive the ball they should use the jump stop and then put the ball in the triple threat position before taking a shot. The shooter than collects their ball, whether it's a rebound or a successfully completed shot, and then passes back to their partner before running back to the half way line. Players should repeat this 5 times before swapping with their partner.

Rebound

Forward pivot to overhead pass

Keeping the ball in triple threat position. The player will forward pivot. Then finish with a 2 hand over head pass.

Get Open Drill

This is a pass and run to the back of the opposite line drill, with a v-cut movement before the pass. Player 1 starts in the triple threat position whilst 2 makes a v cut. Player 1 then passes the ball to player 2. Player 2 fakes a pass to player 1 who now cuts towards the basket. Player 3 (stood behind player 1) now v-cuts to the front of their line. Player 2 passes the ball to player 3. Player 4 (stood behind player 2) makes a v-cut to the front of their line. Player 3 passes the ball to player 4.

Phantom Fundamental Drill (ii)

Players v-cut their way up and down the court, with their up in front of their chest (ready to catch an imaginary pass). Take 2-3 paces to the right and (cut) change direction and speed, then 2-3 paces to the left etc.In addition to this, when players hear the whistle blow they must stop as quickly as possible. A one count stop is executed. On the second blast of the whistle players can continue to v-cut their way up the court.

Phantom Fundamentals Drill (iii)

On the whistle, players will execute a reverse pivot, then a front pivot and then continue v-cutting up the court. Players should be balanced and in the triple threat position throughout the pivot movement. Practice pivoting on left and right foot.

Starting with the ball in triple threat position, the passer will step around the defensive player and make a bounce pass from their hip.

Players are lined up on the baseline. The coach will be on the other side of the court.When the whistle is blown the players will start to jog. When the whistle is blown again the players will perform a quick stop to simulate them catching the ball in triple threat ready to shoot.This is continued to the other end of the court.

Start position is on the block. Toss the ball to the free throw line extended at the three-point line. Jag, step and cut to catch the ball in a quick step. Take the ball to the shooting pocket and forward pivot into the triple threat position facing the front pocket. Do a shoulder fake towards the free throw line and drive on a dribble to the baseline taking a shot from about 8 meters.

The offensive player will come from the opposite side of the lane to post up on the block on the ball side of the court. To get around the defensive player the offensive player will lift their arm over and step around the defensive player. Once the offensive player is in front they will have a very wide stance, showing a hand target where they want to receive the basketball.

Stand about 2 meters from the basket. Toss the ball up to the rim to simulate a shot. Jump and rebound the ball. Shoot using a jump hook. Do this drill 10 times. The next 10 cab be tipped in or rebound out of the net and use a power move.

This drill needs 1 passer and 1 player posting up ready to shoot the basketball. The pass will be made into the post, once the player receives the ball they will drop step, jump stop and shoot a power move off the backboard.(Watch the video to see the footwork of the move) The passer will become the shooter and the next person in line will become the passer.

Player 1 starts with the ball in the middle of the court and plays the ball to player 2 who cuts in to the first cone. Player 2 must then pass to player 3 who has also made a run inside to the other cone further up the court. Player 1 in the meantime should loop on the outside behind player 2 to receive the ball back from player 3 and take a shot.

Step around pass is used when you are closely guarded and you need to step around the defender in the direction you want to pass the ball. As you step around you will need to protect the ball by getting the ball to the side of your body away from the defender and making the pass from your hip.

Set up the practice as shown.<BR>Split the group in to three.<BR>Players in the corners of the court have basketballs.<BR>Player 1 sprints straight to the cone in front of them before making a cut either way to then receive a pass from one of the players in the corner. Player 1 then goes onto shoot, before collecting their ball and joining the queue in the corner.<BR>The player that gave the pass then runs to the join the queue of players on the half way line.

Player on top of the perimeter is a passer and player on the side is a cutter. The cutter runs towards the key until on foot is inside the key then they change direction and move towards the ball. When they are free they must signal for the ball with their outside hand.Once they receive the ball they can then square up towards the basket and go for a shot or drive for a lay up.

Once the shot has been taken that player will get the rebound and pass the ball to the next player. This is a continuous drill and can be stopped or changed when you want the player to shoot with a different hand.
