20 x 20 yd box with a goal midway along each side 4 lines of players, 2 lines have the balls to serve Will play the ball to the opposite side of the grid and follow the pass & close down the receiver (attacker). Attacker must beat the defender with the ball & score in the goal where the ball originated. If defender wins the ball, they try to score in the attacker's goal. Limit game length to try and keep it high intensity. Variations & Progressions: Can introduce a second attacker for a 2v1. Play ball to attacking player and have them meet it in the middle of the square, so defender has less time to prepare. Play ball to attacker and have them meet it halfway, with the player behind them in their line following to close them from behind. Now they must try to turn the defender and score in their own goal.
For defenders: Curve their approach/closing run so they are less likely to be caught flat-footed. This way they are showing the attacker where they want them to go (in a game, showing them away from the danger areas). For attackers: Making sure their first touch takes them away from the defender. Use speed, clever footwork & a second player if permitted. Be creative.
