Blue team trying to play quick passes to attract defenders: followed by attacking the weak side and creating an open goal opportunity to encourage quick play. If they don't take advantage of this opportunity then the keeper will be able to recover to the other net. First run of the exercise is free play, let players experiment and look at what they need help working out. Potential progression: keep defedners free but advise blues to keep in their 'side' of the pitch to promote keeping the pitch big and creaying space - add a 'playmaker' for the blues to create an overload. One point for scoring against the keeper Five points for scoring in an open goal One point for defenders if they win the ball back and complete 5 passes - an extra point for every 5 successive passes (10 passes two points etc.) Five points if the defending team can score. Ask the blues to consider the role of their goalkeeper, how can he help? Encourage creativity!
1) Types of pass/Deception Can we create space by deceiving the defender or trying a combination of different passes (wall pass, chip pass, long pass etc.) 2) Receiving the ball What is a good first touch? This will depend on situation. What makes a good first touch from a long pass? How do we receive and open up? 3) Play quick and wide Can we keep the pitch nice and big? How does this help us attack and create space? What positions do we need to take up in different scenarios? Change how the defenders press and defend. Keep them interested by points scoring and coming up with their own solutions and ideas.
