WHAT THIS SESSION IS ABOUT Attacking in central areas. Attacking in wide areas. Creating chances to score from both wide and central areas. SET-UP 30 x 30yd area for the session expanding to a 40 x 30yd area for the development and game. Two forwards and two defenders start in the playing area. The forwards must find space to receive a pass from the midfielder. The midfielder joins the forwards to attack 3v2 and try to score. The attackers cannot move outside the width of the penalty area. If they do so the defenders have won the battle.
When a central midfielder is dribbling forward to attack it is important that your forwards make runs to receive a pass and disrupt the defence in order to combine and score a goal. However, your opponent will often compact the central areas with lots of defenders, therefore your team will often have to use the wide areas. The attackers must now ensure they lose their markers and get into the box in order to score from the cross once the ball has been moved wide.
