Set three cones on the field as indicated in the animation and divide players into the groups (one behind each cone.) A player from the middle group begins dribbling downfield and passes over to a player from either side. Here the blue player is passing to a player from the green side. The green player immediately passes across field to the red player who takes an immediate shot. This drill is designed to work on teamwork, coordination, and minimum touches on the ball. The only player who should dribble is the starting player. The other two players should pass/shoot immediately or gain control and then immediately pass or shoot. After the drill is completed, have the green player reset and line up behind the red cone. Have the blue player shift and line up behind the red cone. Have the green player move to the central position with the blue cone.
Try having the players run this drill using their dominant and non-dominant foot to increase their ability to quickly alternate during games. Ensure the middle players have plenty of balls and also ask the goal keeper to return the balls from the net to the middle position after each set of players has completed the drill.
