Set up pairs of players on opposite corners of a 6x6 yards square. One player will have a ball the other will be the defender. On the coaches whistle the player with the ball will dribble around the outside of the square and the defender will chase them around the outside of the square. The player with the ball gets a point for each cone they pass before the defender catches them and tags them. Have them switch partners frequently and switch directions around the square. After the players have the hang of it, change the rules so now the defender has to take the ball from the player with the ball instead of tagging them.
Emphasize good technique, dribbling under control using the inside of the foot for close control and turns, and the outside of the foot for accelleration in the straightaways. Slow down and speed up to keep the defender from getting the ball. Push the ball away from the defender and run on to it if they are about to steal the ball.
