Create two boxes, one large 40x40 yard box, and a smaller 10x10 yard box. Place 2 small goals (3 yards wide) on each side of the larger box. Split the players into two different colors, they should all have a ball. Each of the players pairs up with a partner on the other team. The coach will call one of the teams who will have to escape from the center box to the outside box. The team who's color is not called leaves their ball in the middle and become a defender. Start by simply asking the players to dribble anywhere outside the smaller box. Repeat several times, occasionally call the same color twice in a row etc.. to keep the players guessing. Next have the players do the same thing except they have to score on one of the small goals instead of dribbling outside the box. The final variation is to leave enough balls in the center for only 1/2 the players. Start the pairs of players outside the large box, and have them race to the center, attempt to collect a ball and score in one of the smaller goals.
Emphasize changes of pace and direction to create seperation from defenders. Make sure the players switch who they are paired with often. Encourage players of similiar skill to play against each other.
