Set Up: Create a playing area with eight gates. The size of the area will be governed by the age and ability of the players involved. The players can only get in and out of the area through one of the eight gates. Challenge the players to fnd different ways to do this. Progression: Introduce 4 guards who have two gates each which they have to defend. The guards are only allowed to move sideways. If a player gets tagged they have to move to different gates to get out or in the area. Give each player a ball which they have to keep control of while attempting to get in and out of the area. The guards also have a ball that they have to keep with them while attempting to tag players. The players inside the area pair up with a ball between them. They have to pass the ball between them, and look to pass the ball pass the guard, through the gate to their partner.
Coaching Points: Can the player find different ways of moving through the gates? What part of your foot can you use while dribbling? How can you work together to beat the guard to get in or out of the gates? How do you and your partner communicate to ensure the perfect timing on the passes?
