Pass around the half field or full gym
Setup: 4 cones forming approx 30x30m square 1 cone centre of field approx 1/4 from end. 1-2 Player(s) per cone, remaining line up on corner (starting location) Instructions: The players in the corners furthest from the net are defenders. Centre player is a centre-mid/centre-back. The players in the corners closest to net are attackers. Once the ball is passed, the player follows the pass to the next position. Defender right corner passes to centre-mid Centre-mid receives the ball, turns and passes to opposite side defender Defender receives the ball and passes to attacker Attacker will receive the ball, meanwhile other attacker moves towards net to receive ball. Attacker 1 passes/crosses ball to attacker 2. Attacker 2 retrieves the ball and passes to player in starting line, down the side. If goalkeeper is available, the attackers can choose to pass or shoot. Encourage the smart play. Progression: Centre-mid/back sends ball to left defender, which is sent back to centre-mid/back for a give and go. Start with a "goalie" who passes the ball to the defender. Defender can move up the field and come back for the pass instead of in a fixed location Starting defender passes to attacker on same side and receives the ball back and continues pattern. This adds the back pass to the skills. Coaching Hints: Ensure players are communicating Passes need to be crisp and with power. Expected Outcome: Players should be able to quickly pass the ball to the next player. Players should always be ready to receive passes by being in the athletic stance and watching the ball.
