Summary: Drill designed to work on longer passes to transition the ball from the defensive third to the attacking third. Key: Passes - red. Goalkeepers - blue. Players - yellow. Running movement - black dashed arrow. Explanation: Ball starts with Goalkeeper number 1, who clears the ball low to player A. (Player A running in from behind the goal line). Player A then passes onwards to player B who is cutting towards the ball. Player B will have to turn to pass the ball onward to a forthcoming player C. This continues with C passing to D, D to E, before player E takes a shot on goal against goalie 2. Progression: For added progression consider the following: Add in several balls. Have balls going in either direction, increasing the necessity for communication. Add a Defender at each stage, either to defend the player, the ball or both. For a competitive angle, have the players in 2 teams and count how many goals are scored by each. NB: this drill can be done with a larger group by creating a mirror image of the diagram on the opposite half of the pitch, this creates an ongoing circle of movement.
Ensure players are cutting towards the player with the ball (simulates game situation) Encourage communication Make sure longer passes are accurate and to the stick When passing encourage players to use strength in lower hand to give extra strength and length to pass
