Hockey: Interception

Great site. An absolute must for coaches who are willing to change...
Ignatius

DESCRIPTION

- Intercepting a ball on the open side (defender back marking)

COACHING POINTS

- Defender is touch-tight to the attacker

- This allows him to look at the ball and 'feel' where the attacker is moving

- Defender steps across the attacker, with his head following the ball into his stick to ensure a smooth collection

- Notice how the defender moves away from the attacker once they have collected the ball, allowing them to move the ball into a stronger position
